Regional Records: Parthenope contrarius - Poupin, 1996a: 28 (Checklist, with a new record at Eiao, 42m, with this remark: "this new material -1 female and 3 juveniles, coll. Frv Marara, st. D38- agrees very well with the description and the good photograph published by Ratbhun (1906: 885, pl. 17, fig. 1), under Parthenope (Rhinolambrus) lamelligera (White, 1847). According to Sakai (1976: 273) White's species is a synonym of P. (Rhinolambrus) pelagicus (Rüppell, 1830), but Rathbun's material belongs to P. contrarius"); 1996b: 32, pl. 15d (Same material). - Rhinolambrus contrarius (Herbst, 1804) - Tan et al., 1999: 200, fig. 6, 7 (Distribution, and affinities with R. longispinis Miers, 1879). - Relevant material - ? Parthenope sp. - Monteforte, 1984: 174, annex 1, tab. a (Takapoto). - Salvat & Richard, 1985: 350 (Takapoto). - Remark: Determination by Poupin (1996a, 1996b) to be revised. The species could also be Rhinolambrus longispinis Miers: see Tinker (1965: 88) photograph (det. probably J. Garth), and comment by Tan et al., 1999: 200. Date of publication for this species is 1796 in Davie (2002: 389) and Sakai (1999: 40) but 1804 in Tan et al. (1999: 200). - Same sp. - Marquesas, Nuku Hiva Island, coll.
