The atoll was visited from December 2004 to April 2005, during a multidisciplinary survey organized by the French explorer, Jean-Louis Étienne (Étienne, 2005). The Crustacea were sampled successively by a French and a Mexican team. Sampling methods included collecting the specimens in the intertidal area, at low tide, snorkeling in shallow waters and scuba diving by skilled divers, down to 55 m, using sucking pumps and underwater brushing of coral blocks into large plastic containers. As a result, 32 new records have been identified (in red in this list), which increases the number of species recorded from Clipperton from 63 to 95.
